Basketball

Tues. -

ree

Kicking off the week, the Purple Raiders faced the Belle River Nobles, a team the seniors previously fell short to during the Catholic Central Tournament. The junior boys started off the game by stopping the Nobles with great defence and ended the first quarter with a buzzer beater from David Awolade . They carried the strong momentum into the second half and pulled through with a win of 46 to 40. The seniors started the game off slow and only scored 4 points in the first quarter, but after head coach Mike gave an inspiring speech during the break, the senior boys went off on a 10 to 2 run and managed to get the crowd jumping as they

headed into the half up 26 to 22. However, the momentum ran out as the Nobles hit multiple 3’s to get themselves back into the game and took the win as the Raiders came short 39 to 51 with Lucas Bedore being the top scorer with 13 points.

Thurs. -

On Thursday, the Assumption basketball team played the Leamington Lions at home for their last regular season game. The juniors entered the game with a 6 and 3 record to boost their energy. The game went back and forth and got the fans cheering, but unfortunately the Lions acquired some momentum and finished the game with our junior boys losing 34 to 47.

ree

This last game of the season was the anticipated Senior night for our Senior boys which featured a starting five of all grade 12’s. The game started off pretty rocky for our boys entering the half down by 22 pts. Coming into the second half, our seniors had great energy and managed to close down the gap to 10 points, finishing off the game 44 to 54. Congratulations to all our graduating seniors for a great season, and a special congratulations to Kye Van Horn for making WECSSAA 3rd team all city! The juniors will be expecting your raider spirit on Monday, February 15 at 4:00 p.m. for a home game for their first playoff against the Essex Red Raiders.

Volleyball

Mon.-

On Monday, February the 6th, the junior girls ended their season in the preliminary round of the playoffs. In a game against the Leamington Lions, who were 7-2 going into this game, the Purple Raiders had a strong start, taking the first set. However, the Lions persevered and took the following sets. The juniors represented the school very well throughout the season, and are looking forward to making a deeper run next year.

Tues. -

On Tuesday, February the 7th, our senior girls volleyball team played Brennan, our long time Rivals, for their first playoff game!

ree

The girls headed into the game with a strong mindset and took the first and second set, both being 25 to 21. Unfortunately, the Cardinals managed to take the third set in a turn around for a set score 15 to 25. However, this did not stop our girls from finishing the job and winning the last set 25 to 23. Congratulations to our senior girls for bringing out the broom for a gentleman’s sweep of longtime rivals, the Brennan Cardinals, to advance onto the second round of playoffs where they played the L’Essor Eagles.

Thurs. -

On Thursday, February the 9th, the senior girls volleyball team came into their second playoff game with a lot of momentum after beating Brennan 3 sets to 1. Our girls headed over to Tecumseh to play the second seed L’Essor. The senior girls started off slow losing the first set 17 to 25, but kept improving every set, managing to get 22 points the third set. However it was not enough and the girl’s playoff run ended short. The girls enjoyed a great season, making it all the way to the quarter-finals.

Wrestling

Wed.

On Wednesday, February the 8th, the Assumption Wrestling team went over to Tecumseh Vista Academy to participate in a tournament. From our boys, we had two 4th place finishes from Jack Gelinas and Mo Hadwan. From our girls, we had a 2nd place finish from Aya El-Rafi and a 3rd place, taken by Fatimah Siddiquie. Overall, it was a great tournament performed by our Assumption Wrestling team, congratulations!

Curling

Mon.

On Monday, February the 6th, our Purple Raiders Co-ed curling team had their first game since the Christmas break. They were up against the undefeated Leamington Lions at the Roseland Curling Club. However they didn’t manage to bring it home and ended the match with a score of 4 to 13. The Purple Raiders will be facing L’Essor on Monday for their last game of the regular season.

Social Justice

It’s February, and that means remembering the important people and events in the history of the African diaspora, otherwise known as Black History Month. At Assumption, we pride ourselves on our diversity and the lengths we take to embrace and spread awareness regarding influential figures regarding the African diaspora within our community, country, and world. Assumption has always aspired to bring goodness, awareness, and knowledge, and the Social Justice club aims to do the same. The Social Justice club is raising awareness in regard to the African diaspora via interactive games such as specially-themed jeopardy, awareness posts on the Social Justice club’s Instagram page @assumptionsocialjustice, and weekly meetings on Monday, room 025 about influential members of the Black community. We at the Social Justice club encourage all students of Assumption to join us in our journey to learning and appreciating Black history.

Raiders Care Club is pleased to announce that our most recent initiative was a success! Courtesy of yoga instructor Sarah, many Raiders were able to clear their minds and de-stress from exams during a tranquil lunch yoga session last week. We are looking forward to continuing this positive trend throughout Kindness week, as many exciting activities have been planned in collaboration with our Student Advisory Council. With a “Hug in a Mug”, a spirit pep rally and kindness challenges on the horizon, you’ll be guaranteed to feel the love this week―regardless of your Valentine's Day situation! Happy Random Acts of Kindness Week Raiders!

ACS Upcycled Club

ree

The ACS UPCYCLED Club is a new organization within our school community that promotes environmental sustainability. So far this year, we have been able to do weekly clean-ups throughout the school and different incentives. During the holiday season, the UPCYCLED Club held a used toy drive for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. They were incredibly grateful for our school’s contribution and we wanted to say a huge thank you to the ACS community for making this possible.

We are looking forward to new members of our club as we welcome a variety of talents such as artists and just about anyone who is willing to make a difference in our environment and school community. You can also follow our social media pages @upcycledacs on Instagram and @acsupcycledclub on TikTok. For more information on joining, please visit room 206 in Mr. Laporte’s room on Fridays. Again, all new members are welcome, see you soon Raiders!

Finance Club

The Finance Club is an exciting opportunity for high school students to learn about the world of finance, investing, and economics. Every week, we have lessons that teach important concepts such as business fundamentals, personal finance, and corporate finance. In addition, we have the chance to participate in stock trading competitions, like the University of Windsor Stock Trading Competition and the University of Guelph Business Competition. During our meetings, we get a hands-on experience and apply what we've learned through simulations and real-world stocks. Try out this interactive game for a little fun! https://buildyourstax.com/
